A wildfire that ripped through a hillside in Okanagan Falls Sunday night is 75 per cent contained, according to the BC Wildfire Service.
Spot fires are still visible above Green Lake Road where the blaze broke out at 10:30 p.m. Sunday night.
An official from Okanagan Falls Volunteer Fire Department said a few residents were evacuated from Green Lake Road, including campers at Okanagan Falls Provincial Park. Although the fire came close to homes, there was no report of structural damage.
The official said it is suspected the fire started when high winds caused power lines to contact each other, resulting in sparks. However, the BC Wildfire Service said they are still investigating.
It was a chaotic scene Sunday night as residents on both sides of Okanagan River scrambled to leave town in a shroud of smoke.
As of Monday morning Green Lake Road residents were still out of their homes, however, the road remains open.
The fire is mapped at 16.3 hectares, with 25 firefighters on scene. No air support is required, a fire information officer said.
