Victoria Zane

December 25, 1925 -
October 6, 2020

On Tuesday October 6, 2020, Victoria Zane passed away peacefully at Mariposa Gardens in Osoyoos BC.

Affectionately known by her family and many friends as Baba, she will be missed dearly.

Victoria was born in Wostock, Alberta on December 25, 1925 to John and Magdalena Topolnitsky. She was raised on the family farm with her parents and 4 brothers, Bill (Kay), Ted (Nancy), Andy (Irene) and Nick (Liz).

In 1946, Victoria married John Zane and they soon moved to BC, settling first in Vancouver where they welcomed their only daughter, Melanie. In 1969, Victoria, John and Melanie moved to their home, Zane’s Shady Acres in Rock Creek BC.

The years in Rock Creek were filled with trips across Canada and the US and to Europe, Australia, Hawaii and Alaska.

Victoria enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, feeding her deer and cooking delicious, full course meals for her family and friends.

Vicki was known for her Ukrainian cooking and became known as the Perogy Queen while working at Siggi’s Perogy House in Osoyoos. Over the years, she taught her daughter, grandchildren and two great grandsons to make perogies, nachynka and holopsi.

Baba’s grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest joys. Her fridge and cupboards were always stocked and a pot of borscht was ready in case they stopped by.

Vicki will be fondly remembered for her sense of humour and quick wit. She loved a good joke and sharing stories that made her laugh, especially about her grandchildren.

Victoria is survived by her husband John, her daughter Melanie, grandsons Aaron (Nicole) and Jordan, granddaughter Mikayla, great grandsons Blake and Chase and a brother Andy (Irene) Topolnitsky.

Special thank you to Dr. Devries, Celia Evanson, the staff at Sunshine Ridge, Oliver Hospital, McKinney Place, Mariposa Gardens and many dear friends who took extra care of our Baba in her final years.
