Shaw, Dean Gordon
We lost Dean after a short battle with cancer, when he passed away peacefully with his family at his side on the evening of January 19, 2020, at 71 years of age.
Dean had many loves in his life. Including his wives Karen (Jones) Shaw, until we lost her in 1994, and he had his new love Cathie (Chambers)
Shaw up till the end. She was there for him and helped his gypsy ways continue in their travels, across North and Central America. Though he technically lived in Oliver, BC, La Penita, Mexico was home. They spent 8 years enjoying themselves and friends along the way.
He also leaves behind his Daughter, and her family. He was so proud of his family, loved them like crazy and always made sure they knew it. He
always showed everyone that kindness, patience and thoughtfulness were important.
Dean was the middle child – the trouble maker – of 10. It was a huge family, that unfortunately was split up when they were all little. They were
fostered and adopted out. In 1998, they were all together for the first time ever at Dean’s daughter’s wedding inCalgary. What a reunion! You would think that they would all be very different, but that was so far from the truth. They were so similar you would think the separation never happened. He loved his family so much and would have had 10 kids himself, but that just wasn’t in the making, so he loved his daughter enough for 10 babies.
Dean was a talented man who could fix pretty much anything. During his life he became a journeyman painter and did many renovations, painted and repaired cars, but his happiest job was the restaurant he owned – Roberto’s in Penticton. If you had ever had the opportunity to visit, you left happy, full and with his company, which was always enjoyed. He loved to cook and share his creations with everyone. Also any time anyone was renovating their house, he was right there to help out.
Music was another great love of his. Dean would sit and jam with anyonewanting to play. He played banjo, guitar, and piano, and loved getting
together at Tiki’s bar in La Penita for some karaoke, where he and Cathie would tear up the dance floor.
He was a gypsy in life, always moving about… not sure how he handled being in Saskatchewan for 14 years straight, but he did it so Sonya could
go to the same schools all through her education. However, the second she graduated… they were off!!! He never went anywhere without
making friends, and adopting Sonya’s and Cathie’s friends as his own.
He leaves behind a legion of people who will miss him dearly, and we will honour his love by having a party for
him. The details and time of this is still being figured out, but it will be when it is warm as he disliked being cold.
