Pete Ritco
Pete Ritco, of Oliver, B.C. passed away on Oct.16, 2022 at the age of 94 after a short bout with cancer.
Pete was born on June 29, 1928 on a farm in Grand Forks, BC to Rosa (Rada) and Clem Ritco. He was the 2nd youngest of a family of 10 kids and is survived by his sister Ollie and many nieces, nephews and relatives overseas.
Throughout his early years, Pete’s hobbies and interests included local pool tournaments (winning many), reading the entire Encyclopedia Britannica set over a six-year span and forcing his mother Rosa to work hard keeping up with his voracious appetite, which included eating 37 cobs of corn in one sitting (would have been more but she ran out). Prospecting, trap shooting, hunting, fishing and travel also kept him busy. He watched curling and was an enthusiastic Blue Jays fan. Pete also once made local Okanagan news for electing to serve jail time for 4 days rather than pay his outstanding parking tickets. Playing Bingo six days a week and playing solitaire (world record unofficially for most games played in a lifetime) occupied Pete’s time in later years. Pete was an independent person (stayed single all his life), yet took the time to care for his sister Doris during the latter years of her life. He took time to talk with people and his easy-going nature and laugh made him a joy to be around. He rarely complained about anything.
We would like to thank the nurses and staff at Haven Hill Care Centre and Dr. Clark for their gentle kindness and love that they extended to Pete throughout his stay there and at Penticton Hospital. Pete will be cremated with no service as per his request.
