NAOMI JEANNE LANGLOIS
It is with great shock and sadness we announce the death of beloved mom and grandmother, Naomi Jeanne Langlois, early in the morning of March 27, 2020 at the young age of 79.
She passed away unexpectedly in her sleep.
While she suffered from a variety of “older people” health issues, we had no clue her last days would be so soon. Her three children, Sean, Mike and Michelle, were certain she’d grow much older and live out her days in a home offering to cook food even if no one was hungry, playing scrabble, reading Lee Child books and sneaking in cans of coke.
She was a supermom, before supermoms were a thing. She raised three kids on her own, while working full time, and still managed to be the mom who made a huge bowl of popcorn (before microwave popcorn was a thing) for the neighbourhood kids to eat on our doorstep and chat about the day.
She was born in small town Ontario (both her parents predeceased her) but called Vancouver home for much of her life. It’s where she worked, raised her family, made lasting friendships and attended church regularly. (It’s also where she developed her renowned stink-eye that she would cast upon us misbehaving children during mass.)
She and her loving life-partner Edward Fraser retired to Osoyoos many years ago. She loved going fishing, crossing the border to shop at Prince’s, hitting up any and all casinos in the Pacific Northwest and reading every book the town library had on its shelves. She could often be found baking pies for charity or helping out at the church.
She was known to enjoy a glass of wine or two, loudly cheer on (or swear at!) her favourite hockey team, and browse through boutique shops for hours (while Edward patiently waited) and leave buying nothing.
Most of all, she loved her children and her only grandchild, Dawson, who was the star of the show. She will be missed immensely by all of us, as will her Sunday and holiday dinners with everyone at the table.
She leaves behind her partner Edward Fraser, his sister Helen in Scotland, her three children , Sean (Meranda), Mike and Michelle (David) and her favourite and only grandchild, Dawson, as well as her many relatives and friends in Ontario.
There will be a celebration of life service held at a later date, when it is safe once again to gather in large groups. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donation to one of the charities she supported, Alzheimer Society of Canada.
