
Mary Vermeulen
Maria “Mary” Vermeulen passed away peacefully at Sunnybank Centre on March 8th in her 100th year of life. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was also a social butterfly who enjoyed many meaningful friendships through the years.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Hank and eldest son, Richard. She is survived by her sons, Cor (Gloria), Hank (Doreen), and Albert (Susan), daughter in law Shelly, grandchildren Shane (Robyn), Marnie (Mike), Jeff (Brooke), Kristy (Jasper), Leah (Tony), Joel, and Jenny (Justin) and great grandchildren Sara, Keira, Jadyn, Aliya, Jules, Thijs, Carter, and Jacob. Mary immigrated to Canada from Holland with her husband and four sons in 1955 settling inOliver, B.C. She worked at the Oliver Co-Op packinghouse for over 20 years. Mary enjoyed travelling back to Holland to visit family on numerous occasions, as well as hosting Dutch relatives in Canada. She was known for her spotless housekeeping, beautiful gardens, playful disposition, and infectious giggle. In retirement she enjoyed daily coffee visits at A&W, playing cards and games with friends, and all day shopping trips to Penticton.
Thank you to Dr. A DeVries, Dr. M DeVries, and the caring staff at Sunnybank Centre who enhanced Mary’s quality of life in her final years.
At Mary’s request there will not be a service, instead a family graveside gathering will be held at a later date.
