February 14, 2022

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Grey on February 14, 2022 at McKinney Place, Oliver, BC at the age of 92.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, John and Anna Proniuk, husbands Alvin Brown, Marvin Grey, best friend Bill Stannard and grandson Monty Brown.

Mary will be lovingly remembered by sister, Jenny McElroy; sons, Stan (Doris), Ron (Judy), Craig (Zsuzsanna), Rob (Diana); daughter, Janice Magee (Rocky); stepchildren, Deb Keet (Larry) and Rod Grey; grandchildren, Levi, Luke, Jason, Tiffany, Jenn, Brian, Doug, Mitch, Adam, Alex, Stefan, Jessica; great-grandchildren, Eli, Kade, Teagan and Leah and nieces and nephews.

Mary was born in Lethbridge and spent her childhood years in Shaughnessy.   Mary and Alvin met in Lethbridge where they married and started their family.    Mary and Alvin were active square dancers, travelling to square dance competitions in Penticton and elsewhere.  Mary lost her loving husband, Alvin, at an early age, leaving her alone to raise her family of five.  She started work with Canada Safeway where she quickly advanced to the level of Head Cashier.   In 1971, Mary met and married Marvin Grey.   Mary and Marvin loved to golf and travel, visiting family and friends in Alberta and BC and often escaping winter to the US.   Mary also visited her parents’ homeland, travelling to the Ukraine and Russia.   After many years with Safeway, Mary retired and moved to Oliver.  She continued to travel, was very active in the golf community, line danced and did aqua size until age 90.

Mary was very outgoing, easily chatting with others wherever she went.  She made friends easily and kept in touch throughout the years.   Mary was a very vibrant, witty and caring person.

The family send their heartfelt appreciation to her dear friend, George Debenham and all the staff of McKinney Place for their care and support.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Lethbridge at a later date.
