It is with heavy hearts that the family of Maria Jose Goncalves announce her passing on February 22, 2023 at the age of 77 years in Osoyoos, B.C.

Maria Jose (“Mary-Joe”) was born July 15, 1945 in Erada, Portugal to her parents Antonio & Gracinda Batista.

Mary-Joe is survived by her loving husband Jose, daughter Isabel (Paul) and son Denny (Tanya). Mary-Joe is also survived by 4 adoring grandchildren: Cody, Savannah, Sierra and Brayden as well as her great-grandchild, Oaklyn. She also leaves behind her brother Joe, a large number of family members and numerous friends she considered family.

Mary-Joe came to Canada as a youngster with her family and spent the majority of her time living in Osoyoos. Mary-Joe enjoyed spending time with family and friends, be it at home in Osoyoos, camping in the US or the trips taken to Mexico and Portugal, these were times she truly cherished.

She will be fondly remembered for her warm generous spirit and love for having everyone in the family home sharing food, drink and laughter.

A private family ceremony took place on Monday, February 27, 2023.

The family then invited people to join them at the Osoyoos Cemetery at 12:15pm for the interment followed by a Celebration of Life reception held at the Portuguese Canadian Cultural Society in Osoyoos at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you consider making a donation to the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia.
