Manfred Horst Illig
Fred passed away suddenly on May 5, 2019 at the age of 81. In 2017 he was predeceased by Herma, his wife of 57 years. He is survived by his three children, Tony Illig, Dennis Illig, and Susan Powlesland, as well as two grandchildren, Michelle Illig-Lesage and Paul Illig-Lesage.
Fred immigrated to Canada as a teenager, and cycled across the country until he reached the Okanagan valley. He worked in the tree fruit industry, first as an orchardist and then with the cold storage and packing houses. He volunteered much of his time as a caregiver to the elderly and infirm in his congregation and found great joy in helping others.
Fred also loved the outdoors and spent many happy hours camping and fishing in the hills, often with several kids in tow. A generous, kind hearted man with a wonderful sense of humor, he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial will be held at 2:00 pm on May 25 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Oliver BC.
