Lidia Maria Dutra

On Monday, September 5, 2022, Lidia Maria Dutra, late of Osoyoos, passed away peacefully at the age of 81 years. She was born on October 2nd, 1940 in Pedreira do Nordeste, Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal.  She was predeceased by her husband, Manuel; son, David; sister, Margarida Barbosa; brother, Jaime Barbosa; parents, Teotonio Medeiros Barbosa and Maria de Luz Pacheco Barbosa.

Lidia will forever be remembered by her sons, Daniel Dutra (Carey) and Nelson Dutra (Jennifer); grand children Mariah, Makayla, Bianca, Natasha and Jayden; brother Arnold Barbosa; sisters Aida Sebastiao (Jose), Maria Alice Silva (Antonio), Margarida Bento (John Victor).

Lidia immigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1960, from Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal where she worked at St Joseph’s Hospital in Vancouver until 1966. She married Manuel and moved to Oliver BC where they purchased and operated their family farm from 1966-2003.

There were many memorable family trips that included trips to Portugal, The Holy Land, California, Toronto, Niagara Falls, Massachusetts, Mexico, Hawaii, Cuba and a Caribbean cruise.

Lidia was a member of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL). She was also very involved with helping and organizing the Holy Spirit Festivals in both Oliver and Osoyoos for many years.

Lidia nurtured life, whether it was to care for the human spirit both physically and spiritually with food, drinks and love. She grew and nurtured the farm, her garden and flowers and took incredible care of all the fruits and vegetables that God provided her.

A Prayer Service was held on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass followed on Monday, September 12th, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Peter Tompkins as celebrant. Both Services were held at St. Anne Catholic Church. Interment and committal followed at the Osoyoos Lakeview Cemetery. A reception in the church lower hall followed the interment.
