Kenneth Michael Burnett
Gone far too soon, Kenneth Michael Burnett passed away painlessly December 10, 2021, at Kelowna General Hospital with his wife and mother by his side.
After a very quick bout of brain cancer, Ken left behind his wife of 40+ years, Penny, his two sons, Brad (Irena) and Cory (Laura), granddaughter, Ava, along with his Mom and Dad, Doreen and Jack, sister, Sharon Bastian, aunt, Jackie McOuatt, well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Jennifer, his sister, Gaylene Dooley, and his nephew, Danny Bastian.
Ken loved life, often saying how it got better every year. He was skilled at understanding what was within his control and what wasn’t. Ken had a quick wit and a great sense of humour, making smart-ass comments any chance he could.
While his sons were young, he would volunteer his time either coaching or chauffeuring them around hockey rinks, making many friends along the way. For many years, Ken was also a volunteer fire fighter, jumping to action any time he heard the call.
After being employed at General Coach for 30+ years, in 2010 he started working with the crew at Mike’s Auto, which he loved very much.
He spent the last 20 years with his wife and family enjoying their cabin at Mt Baldy, skiing with his many friends. After retiring in 2020, he skied nearly every day last season. During his later years, he loved playing with his granddaughter, Ava.
Ken was also deeply loved by his wife’s family, having many in-laws that will miss him very much.
A graveside service will be held at the Oliver Cemetery on 18 December 2021 at 2pm. Afterwards, there will be an outdoor gathering at the Burnett home (1148 Fairview Road) on the deck Ken built this year. Please dress for the weather. A celebration of Ken’s life will be planned at Mt Baldy in Spring 2022.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations can be made in Ken’s name to JoeAnna’s House, who provided comfort to Ken’s family during his final days. https://joeannashouse.com/
