Retired orchardist and plumber, dearly loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Julius Szabo’s love of life did not come to an end with his death. Julius passed away on June 26, 2021, at the age of 82 after a brave battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was surrounded by his beloved family who will continue to honour his legacy by exhibiting the kind and hard-working spirit Julius showed every day.

Julius was born on May 29, 1939, in the farming community of Karak sz rcs k, Hungary to parents Gyula and Maria Szabo. Julius had two

brothers: predeceased by the eldest, Pali, and survived by the youngest, Deszo.

During the Hungarian Revolution, Julius daringly immigrated to Canada from Hungary in 1957. He met the love of his life, Mary in Penticton, BC.

Together they made a beautiful life settling down in Osoyoos, BC in 1962, owning and working in their orchard.

Julius was passionate about his Hungarian culture and participated in the Okanagan Hungarian Club for numerous years, acting as president in 1979

and 1980.

Known for the magical shrubbery around his property, Julius would spend countless hours meticulously tending and shaping his garden and yard.

Julius’ smile could light up a room and his laugh was contagious. He enraptured audiences with his storytelling ability and keen sense of humour.
