JoAnn (Pehl) Kapeikis
September 2, 1936, Raymond Washington
April 2, 2021, Penticton
You were the central and peripheral nervous
system of our family. You believed
with purpose, intelligence, integrity and
compassion, you are eternally an inspiration
for us all; the strongest person we have
ever known, it is fitting you were at such
p e ace to the very end.
You fought the battle with Glioblastoma
cancer with grace with our family surrounding
you during these difficult times.
We are so thankful to know you are welcomed
in God’s gracious arms and are at
peace. “Only God knows.” A beautiful saying
we shared as you knew soon after your
diagnosis and emergency surgery on March 26, 2020 that you were nearing
the end of your life.”
JoAnn, words cannot describe how our daughter Cheryl, her Krista, Vanessa,
Raelene; son Paul and Louise, Kaela, Danika and Liam, your grandchildren
will miss you, as well as your many cousins, friends and their families.
You completed your education at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma
and became a sought after book keeper and accountant, working for G.M.
dealerships and later Lougheed Ship Building and Dry-dock in Seattle. We
married in Tacoma, September 14, 1957. You were my partner in starting a
home building business in Seattle. Later in life you accompanied me to Pacific
Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, California and in 1968 as
pastor’s wife, to Sedgewick, Alberta.
You became my partner in ministry; you played the organ, piano and enjoyed
working with youth in Bible camps, local and national events and choir
tours in summer. You enjoyed your women friends working in ELW, serving
as their B.C. treasurer and later on the national board of directors.
My dear love of our lifetime, we’ll meet again in the presence of the God
we trusted, the Creator of the universe reveled to us fully as Father, Son and
Holy Spirit. Our earthly remains will be preserved in section K of the columbarium
in the Penticton Cemetery.
Family farewell viewing will be Sunday, April 18, 1:00 and 3:00 pm at
Nunes – Pottinger Funeral Service in Oliver.
Later in June or July a videoed Service of “Remembrance and Thanksgiving”
for JoAnn’s life will be at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev
Curtis Aguirre presiding. In place of flowers donations may be made to Our
Redeemer Lutheran or Moog & Friends Hospice House in Penticton. Special
thanks for the care given to JoAnn in her illness go to the many doctors and
n u rses that attended to her needs.
