James Nevan Clayton Shaw

December 8, 1958 -
March 8, 2022

It is with great sadness to announce that James “Jim” Nevan Clayton Shaw, 63, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday March 8th 2022 at Penticton Regional Hospital. He fought a long and courageous 9-year battle with cancer. He is predeceased by his parents, James and Ella Shaw, and sister Susan Van Pelt.

Jim was born in Penticton and lived nearly the entirety of his life in Osoyoos. He grew up working on the family orchard and spent his spare time exploring the outdoors. His strong love of the outdoors led him on many hunting and fishing journeys within the Okanagan, and throughout the province of British Columbia. Jim held many leadership roles with the Osoyoos Fish and Wildlife club, thoroughly enjoying them all.

His main occupation was an orchardist, where he memorably interacted with everyone that came through the farm, exchanging many stories and sharing his contagious laughter. In the latter years he became well known for growing some of the only asparagus in the region.

Jim had many hobbies, not limited to fishing, hunting, gardening, and skiing in his youth. Many will remember his smoked salmon and trout, which left people always looking for more. He also enjoyed spending time with family at many holiday gatherings throughout the year.

We are very grateful for the care and loving support from the family physicians, doctors, nurses and support staff at the Penticton and Kelowna Oncology Departments.

Jim leaves behind his loving wife Cheryl of 34 years, son Maxwell (Deanna), granddaughter Evelyn, daughter Courtney (Steven), sisters Debbie (Preston), Rhonda (Ron), Wendy (Ron), Margot (Chris), as well as many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by many.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday March 25th, 2022 at the Osoyoos Baptist Church followed by a reception at the church. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 pm Friday March 25th, 2022 at the Osoyoos Lakeview Cemetery.
