Helen (Elena) Laura Shippit

On Wednesday, December 23, 2020, Mrs. Helen Shippit (Chobotar) of Osoyoos passed away peacefully at Mariposa Gardens at the age of 96 years.

She was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Shippit and her son Larry Shippit; her brothers Bill, Peter, Nick, Mike, and George; her sister Dorothy Campbell; her grand-daughter Mary De Vos.

Helen will be lovingly remembered by her family including her children; Marvin “Chuck” (Rosemary) Shippit, Brenda (Wilf) Muller, Randy (Pat) Shippit, Nancy (Mike) Morrison, grandchildren; Patrick Shippit, Kelly Shippit, Heather Shippit, Travis Nakken, Marty De Vos, Kris (Charyssa) Shippit, Aaron Shippit, Jeff (Amber) Muller, Lee (Melissa) Muller, Jenn Kettler, Dale (Kathleen) Shippit, Kylee Shinn, and great-grandchildren; Brenner, Hayden, Brannon, Emily, Kayden, Ross, Tillie, Taylor, Halle, Kash, Wes, Jace, Norah, Lydia, Eoin, Stella, Chloe, and Bjorn.

Helen was born in Sundown, Manitoba and moved to Rock Creek in the late 1940’s to be the cook for the sawmill. Helen met Bill Shippit and were married in Oliver in 1947.

Helen and her husband Bill Shippit lived in several towns in the Kootenays. Helen moved from Salmon Arm to Osoyoos in 1961 when Bill passed away.

Helen was a member of the Osoyoos Baptist Church for many years. Helen, will be remembered mostly for her love and dedication of cooking at the Husky Restaurant for over 35 years. She continued to make here famous pies well into her 90’s. She was also known for her unforgettable perogies and cabbage rolls.

Helen shared amazing stories of growing up on the farm in Manitoba. Helen loved to spend time in her flower garden and her most memorable holiday was to England.

Helen was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She will be forever remembered by friends and family as a loving and friendly person.

Donations are gratefully accepted for the Osoyoos Baptist Church.

A celebration of Helen’s life will be held at a later date, she will be laid to rest beside her husband Bill in Salmon Arm.
