On Sunday, October 24, 2021, Mr. Gordon Edward Kingsfield of Oliver passed away peacefully at Sunnybank Centre at the age 90 years.

He was predeceased by his parents Fred and Lena Kingsfield; step-daughter Gillian Fisher (nee Kingsfield); his first wife Jean and granddaughter Megan Kingsfield. Gordon is survived by his wife Mary McCarty; sons Rodney Kingsfield and Stephen (Laurie) Kingsfield; daughters Kathy (Paul) Chapman, Kelly (Ray) Wigymer and Karie (Brian) Ghering; son-in-law Garth Fisher as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gordon was born on the family farm in rural Saskatchewan. He made his way out west and worked for many years at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster as an orderly before working in inhalation therapy. Later he took up drywalling both in BC and AB and gathered a reputation for a job well done. He also drove for the ambulance service in Alberta for 10 years before retiring in Oliver in 1997.

Gordon raised his family in New Westminster and Surrey.

He served for at least ten years as Chairperson of the Board for the Oliver Food Bank and for the past seven years as a janitor with Mary as well as in volunteer positions. Gordon learned to crochet rugs made from cotton tee shirts that often became the prized possession of the recipient. He loved gardening and made daily rounds checking for weeds and any that dared show their head were promptly dispatched.

The family would like to thank Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Service for their care and compassion. Donations are gratefully accepted for the Oliver Food Bank, PO Box 405, Oliver, BC V0H 1T0. Condolences and tributes may be directed to the family by visiting www.nunes-pottinger.com
