On Saturday, June 4^th, 2022, Mrs. Cornelia (Nel) Sophia Ruhland of Oliver passed away peacefully at Sunnybank Centre at the age of 87 years.

She was predeceased by: husband, Henry Ruhland; daughter, Sophia Ruhland ; grandson, Carson Ruhland; second husband, Garry Long; stepson, Michael Long; parents: J & S vander Meer of Holland; brothers: John, Gijs, Gerrit vander Meer and sisters: Lies Conijyn and Rie Jonker.  Survived by her sister Gre vander Meer; children, Aggie (Keith), Joanna (Gerry), Stella, John, Bill (Pam), Jim, (Joanne daughter in-law) and Andrew; grandchildren, Jess (Shelly), Mark (Julie), Jason (Teri), Jeff (Ayako), Tim (Candice), Capri (Geoff), Milan, Maia (Andrew), Tyler, Adam, Jeleis (Johnny), Philip, Anthony, Rachel, Thomas, Erin, Carolyn (Jesse), Kelly, Daniel, Bryan, Sean, Sidney (Marie-Eve), Marisa (Travis), Carson (deceased), Celina, James, Miranda, Jacinta, Teresa, Damien, Philomena and 18 great-grandchildren plus two on the way.

Nel was very devoted to her traditional Roman Catholic faith and lived her life based on this faith.  She was a very giving person, always thinking of others and when tragedy struck, Nel spearheaded a Guatemala Earthquake Relief Program to help people affected by the earthquake.

Nel enjoyed singing, sewing, knitting, gardening, swimming, outdoor nature activities, camping and church activities.

A Requiem Mass was held at 3:00 pm, Friday June 10, 2022 in the Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Chapel, 5855 Hemlock, Street, Oliver, BC followed by interment at the Oliver Municipal Cemetery. A reception in Rooms 1 & 2 at the Oliver Community Centre followed the interment.
