Attaullah Alizadeh
In the evening of March 16th, 2023 Attaullah Alizadeh peacefully began his eternal journey through the realms beyond and the other worlds of God.
Born in the city of Mahabad, in the province of Kurdistan in Iran, Atta was the second child and the eldest son of 8 children in his family. As the eldest son, Atta began to work alongside his father and take on responsibilities well beyond his age before he was 10 years old. Living under difficult circumstances in what was then more remote parts of the country, Atta learned the value of hard work but more importantly the eternal value of possessing a kind heart. Through his loving and lighthearted approach to life, he was able to navigate difficult circumstances as a young man and later when he formed his own family.
Atta enjoyed success while rising in the ranks at a company he worked for before being let go after the 1979 revolution, when he refused to convert from his Bahá’í Faith to Islam. He then became an entrepreneur and enjoyed success until finally, under pressure like many other Bahá’ís at the time, he was forced to escape to Pakistan with his wife and daughters Rozita, Mojgan and Roya.
After more than a year in Pakistan as refugees, in 1987 Atta and his family arrived in Regina to begin their new life in Canada. Never shy of working hard to provide for his family, Atta began working in restaurants and a golf course. Before long, he and his first wife, Tooran, were able to provide a stable life for their children in Regina, while becoming active members of a vibrant Bahá’í community. Their home was regularly open to friends, especially the youth.
In 1994, the family moved to BC and after a short stint in Vancouver Atta decided to move to southern Okanagan and settled in Osoyoos more than 25 years ago, where he opened Pizza 97A for Atta! Over the years he become a well-known member of the community. It was during this time that he met Portia, who he married and continued growing his life and business with. Over the years he took pleasure in contributing to community groups, and through his good nature, a love for laughter, and kind spirit, built many loving relationships.
Atta developed a close bond over the years with his two grandchildren, Diba and Kasra, who visited with their grandparents regularly. They enjoyed spending time with their grandpa and worked at his shop when they visited in the summer. He always showered them with an abundant amount of love, care and generosity.
Falling ill with Parkinson’s, Atta had to sell the business and began a long journey in managing the debilitating disease. Along this road and in addition to the selfless care of Portia, his daughters Mojgan and Roya lovingly supported him along with his sons-in-law Marty and Ramin among others. He and the family are forever grateful to the beautiful people who helped care for him at home, the medical team that guided him and the many community members who lovingly assisted and supported him and the family along the way.
