Alfred (Al) Brandt
In loving memory of Alfred (Al) Brandt – 1934-2022
Passed away peacefully after a short illness on Monday, April 18, 2022.
Al’s favourite punchline was checking the local newspapers’ obituaries to confirm he was still with us. Now that Al has passed on, unfortunately, the time has come for Al to read how great he was as a father, grampa, companion, and a friend to all of us. Al grew up in a big family with six brothers and one sister. Al, being the youngest of the family, was determined to prove he could make it without any additional help at a young age. Determined to prove himself, Al worked as an underage driver for a local trucking company. Little did the company know he was only 14 when he began driving the Hope Princeton Hwy. Determined, he quickly went from being a relied upon truck driver to later running the company and then starting his own company Ocean Highway Heavy Haul. Al, throughout his life, had many opportunities to give up entirely when faced with challenging situations, but knowing his character, quitting was never an option. Many people would believe that playing hockey until the age of 87 is impossible, and they’re right; It certainly should be, but not for Al Brandt. Nothing gave him greater pleasure than the company of family and friends whether it was on the ice, outside in the sun or on a road trip. If you had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Al Brandt, he was a man that defied the odds day in and day out. Al was a role model to all of us, setting the bar high for his family and friends, so quitting would never be an option.
Al is predeceased by son Gordon Brandt. He is survived by his children, Wendy (Rui) and Douglas (Dee); grandchildren, Savana, Lee (Kristin), Elise (Alex), Sara (Jordon), Jessica; great-grandchildren, Joey, Hunter, Charlie, Maxwell, Elizabeth, Noa and his companion Phyllis.
A celebration of Al’s life is scheduled for Saturday, June 11, 2022, 1:00pm – 3:00pm at the Osoyoos Legion, upstairs.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Osoyoos Legion in Al’s name.
