Alexander McKinnon

1931 – 2021

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Alexander Duncan McKinnon at his home at the age of 90 years. Sandy was born

11Apr31 to parents Matthew and Mary McKinnon in the Vermilion, AB area.

Predeceased by his loving wife Irene Gwendolyn McKinnon in 2014, they were able to spend 60 years of marriage

together. Also gone before him were 7 of his 8 siblings and son-in-law, Mike Rooney.

Sandy is survived by their 5 children, Laura Rooney, Matt (Trudy), Cliff (Gay), Clayton, Bev (Kevin) and his younger

sister, Nancy (Lorne) Banks. Between those 5 adult children they gave him 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 3

great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 sisters-in laws, one brother-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sandy was born in Clan Donald, AB and came out to BC securing work in various farming and logging operations. The

last 20 years of his working life was spent at Pope & Talbot in Midway. Sandy and Gwen met in the early 50s. They raised

their 5 children in the Bridesville and Kettle Valley area. Dad volunteered at the Rock Creek Fall Fair, taking his parking

supervisor position very seriously and we remember years when he looked after some of the agriculture exhibits and

the beer garden. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the Osoyoos Gyros, took in the Lions Club dinners and immensely enjoyed

visiting at the Rock Creek Farmers Market. He enjoyed enough good health and mind that he was able to stay in the

house he built and loved right to the end.

A formal celebration may be announced later this year. The Obituary can also be viewed online at https://www.
