An experience of a lifetime

Kelly Maw had the experience of a lifetime when she competed in the National Debate competition in Halifax earlier this month.
Maw soared to the top of her competition in the Provincial and Regional Debates to earn a spot at the Nationals.
This was quite an accomplishment for Maw, considering she had only recently joined the OSS Debate Club.
She went to Halifax with coach Catherine Scott, who said the two learned a lot.
It was a great learning experience overall, Maw said.
Halifax was a great city and I'm glad I had the opportunity to go.rnThe next step is to recruit more participants for the OSS Debate Club, Maw added.
She and Scott will be talking to grades eight and nine students over the next few days, letting them know what the club is about and what the students can achieve on both a competitive and a personal level. There were approximately 70 participants in the National Debate. Maw placed within a respectable mid-range in the competition.
Scott is proud of Maw's accomplishment and sees her as a great role model to future debaters.
At the moment, Maw is preparing for a tournament at UBC in Vancouver later this year.
