Three properties on Nighthawk Drive could finally be developed after Osoyoos town council voted to grant third reading to a rezoning amendment on Monday afternoon.
Following a public hearing on Monday afternoon, council voted to grant third reading to a zoning amendment that will allow the properties at 6801, 6805 and 6809 Nighthawk Dr. to be developed with single family homes. Currently, the property is zoned as high density residential.
Applicant Herb Wycherley, the sole speaker at the public hearing, told council that the lot has been sitting unused since 1981.

“The biggest issue is the slope on the lots,” he said. “There’s no access to the back on the property.”
The high-density zoning would require around seven units of parking, which Wycherley said would be difficulty without access to the back of the property, which borders homes on 89th Street.
With single family homes on the lots, required parking could be at street level, like other homes on Nighthawk Drive.
Also, the rezoning fits better with the other single-family homes in the neighbourhood, Wycherley said.
“I think other people have looked at this property and tried to figure out how to build on it. I think I can do it with single family (residences).”
