New trail kiosks north and south of Oliver have been installed to highlight rail history and biodiversity.
The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen (RDOS) has erected five interpretive kiosks at strategic KVR trailhead locations throughost the region. The kiosks will soon be outfitted with regional trail mapping, trail etiquette and historical references, and local biodiversity information.
“These distinctive kiosks reflect the trains that once travelled throughout the interior,” said RDOS Chair Mark Pendergraft. “This rail history and the rail beds that remain, are important reasons why these trails exist to this day.”
The kiosk locations include Road 21 and at McAlpine Bridge in Area C. Others are located at Chute Lake (Area E), Okanagan Falls trestle (Area D), and the Similkameen Rail Trail in Cawston (Area B).
Area C director Rick Knodel said he hasn’t seen the kiosks yet but he favours them as an interpretive feature.
