A new crosswalk on McKinney Road at the junction of Tucelnuit Drive was unveiled with a ribbon cutting and drumming in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The cross walk features alternating orange and white stripes with white feathers adorning the orange stripes. The feather stencils for the crosswalk were created by Mitch Anderson.

Members of the Osoyoos Indian Band including Chief Clarence Louie and members of Oliver Council including Mayor Martin Johansen were on hand for the event on Friday, Sept. 27.

“The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation gives us an opportunity to reflect, recognize, and commemorate the intergenerational harm that residential schools caused for First Nations families and communities, and honour those who have been impacted by these injustices,” the town of Oliver said.
