Editor:
Because my wife and I are not great consumers and because we compost our kitchen waste, we almost always have one grocery bag of garbage to set at the curb each week.
This week, because I had been picking up after the litter bugs that pass our place, I had filled a second grocery bag and set the two side by side where the driver could have picked them up with one hand. Instead he left one bag with a tag telling me I was over the one-bag limit.
Next week, when I put that same bag along with that week’s bag into a black bag, which will be about one-third full, there will be no problem.
Is there any other way to describe this policy than utter foolishness?
It seems to me the greener this society goes, the farther common sense retreats into oblivion.

WRITER HOPES RCMP WILL ENFORCE BOAT MUFFLER REGULATIONS
Editor:
The federal government recently approved legislation that makes it illegal to operate a boat on Osoyoos Lake unless it is equipped with a muffler that is in good working order.
Excessive boat noise is now an offence under the Vessel Operation Restriction Regulations and Section 37 of the Small Vessel Regulations, both under the Canada Shipping Act.
There is a $250 fine for operating a boat without a muffler, and a $500 fine for operating with a muffler by-pass.
These regulations and fines were instated to curb excessive boat noise that disturbs the public’s right to peace and quiet.
We are hoping that the RCMP will rigorously uphold these laws and fine offending boaters.
One noisy boat can be heard for several kilometres, disturbing people’s enjoyment of our wonderful lake and disturbing sleep at night.

GOOD LUCK TO THE OSS GRADS
Editor:
Thank you to the Times for the special 2009 Graduating Class insert in last week’s paper. Whoever took those individual class pictures did an excellent job!
Good on Osoyoos for producing dozens of great looking grads.
It is a treat to see nice, young, fresh, faces.
Hopefully you will stay in our town; best of luck for the future.
Carole McGhie,
Osoyoos
