The Regional Animal Protection Society (RAPS) has come up with a novel, alternative way of celebrating Valentine’s Day in a bid to help the love-lorn and jaded past the heartbreak, bad dates, and lingering resentment: Neuter your ex.
Through its “Neuter Your Ex” Valentine’s Day campaign, RAPS is inviting donors to make a $25 contribution toward a spay or neuter procedure – and, in return, their ex’s name will go into a draw.
Each kitten from a future RAPS rescue litter will then be named from the list of former flames prior to being spayed or neutered.
While the campaign plays on post-breakup humour, the goal is nonetheless serious and urgent. Spay and neuter programs are among the most effective tools for reducing pet overpopulation, lowering the risk of cancers and infections, and easing the strain on animal shelters and rescue organizations, RAPS said.
“Valentine’s Day can be tough for a lot of people,” says Eyal Lichtmann, chief executive officer of RAPS. “We thought: why not give people a way to laugh, let go, and do something genuinely good at the same time?
“No actual exes are harmed in the making of this campaign — but countless animals benefit.”
All proceeds from the campaign go directly toward funding spay and neuter procedures, a critical part of RAPS’ mission to protect animals, reduce unanticipated litters, and support long-term community welfare.
RAPS is urging donors, regardless of whether they are single, coupled, or simply enthusiastic supporters of animal welfare, to enjoy this playful way to channel Valentine’s Day energy into meaningful impact.
The campaign runs through Valentine’s Day, with limited naming opportunities available.
