Okanagan Falls volunteer firefighters received a bizarre call Tuesday morning – a motorist drove into Skaha Lake.

Penticton RCMP learned that a young male driver mistakenly drove into the lake at the boat launch at approximately 12:30 am. The man managed to escape the submerged SUV and flag down another motorist, who kept the fellow warm until firefighters arrived. The victim suffered mild hypothermia and was treated by paramedics.

Police learned that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the incident.

The boat launch has a history of motorists thinking it is a continuation of Highway 97 . . . until they hit the water.
