Editor:
In reply to the letter of Mike Clancy regarding taxes, I not only disagree with his attitude on the subject, as well as his conclusion that more tax will solve the problem, as it was taxes that created the problem to begin with.
Going back to 1914, income tax did not exist and we had the same services that we have today.
We had doctors and nurses as well as schools and all other services, only government was not involved in running these services as free enterprise provided the needs and we could choose who we wished to deal with or could afford.
Since government took over, the cost as well as the service has gone completely out of control and the debt has reached into billions of dollars, so increasing tax will only increase government spending.
More recently GST and PST and now HST has been invented and this still is not enough to satisfy irresponsible, incompetent government spending, so anyone sympathizing with government, by all means give all you have and the government will gladly take it and still want more.
Also in the same issue an article about Robert Traquair stating war is not a thing we could get rid of and he is probably right as long as those in power are obsessed with power and greed and we the public allow them to lie to us and brainwash those that are ordered to do their dirty work for them, we will just be considered to be a resource without a brain to think what is right or wrong, but to follow orders without questioning what we are ordered to do.
All power corrupts and total power totally corrupts.
Only mad men make war, while wise men make peace.
