Police say more charges are pending for a 43-year-old man accused of a “scourge” of property crimes in Oliver.

RCMP Sgt. Don Wrigglesworth told the Times Chronicle that Lloyd John Baptiste remains in custody and will re-appear in court once he retains a lawyer.

Wrigglesworth said Baptiste faces initial charges of break and enter and possession of stolen property.

“There are more charges that will be added on in the next week and even more in the weeks to come as we continue to investigate.”

Police apprehended Baptiste on Feb. 5 after they attended three commercial break-ins within the span of an hour. Rocks were thrown through windows to gain entry, resulting in cash and other items being stolen.

During patrols that morning police located a male on a bicycle who attempted to flee on Skagit Avenue.

Police suspect the accused is responsible for numerous other break-ins that plagued the community last fall.

In 2018 Baptiste was the subject of an outstanding warrant for breach of an undertaking in relation to an alleged assault and uttering threats in October of 2017. In the same year he also faced a charge of possession of stolen property.
