The Town of Oliver has given the thumbs up to mobile food vending on municipal property.

On June 13 council endorsed the Mobile Food Vending Permit with terms and conditions.

Director of Development Services Randy Houle said the Town has received interest from a vendor who wants to utilize space near the visitor centre. He noted the vendor would operate during centre hours with a $500 monthly fee to the Town.

Houle said it is possible that another vendor might share the same space, but noted there will not be multiple trucks operating at the same time.

Houle said the visitor centre lease was recently modified to include the opportunity to operate a café in the building. But this has not come to fruition yet, therefore the mobile vending service would accommodate this gap, the director said.

“On completion of the Station Street Plaza, the intent is to encourage mobile food vending to complement the area,” Houle said.
Councillor Aimee Grice said this is a great idea to get people used to food trucks in the Station Street development area.
