The Osoyoos Fire Rescue had a new Fire Chief last week when Fire Chief Eller Coughlin, a grade 3 student from Osoyoos Elementary School took over for the day.
As “Fire Chief for a Day”, Chief Coughlin arrived at school in style on Oct. 30 with the Osoyoos Fire Rescue team in Fire Engine 191. Chief Coughlin spent the morning in school learning with her classmates before being picked up at lunch time to take her out for lunch to McDonalds.

The OFR thanked the team at McDonald’s Osoyoos for their hospitality and also extend its thanks to Osoyoos Mayor Sue McKortoff for also attending the lunch.
After lunch Chief Coughlin and the OFR team spent the afternoon conducting a station tour, along with practicing hose work and of course taking care of some paperwork.
When asked by the Times Chronicle how the day was, she replied “Goood!” adding, “it doesn’t even feel like a school day.”
More kids than ever – nearly 200 – entered the draw for the once in a lifetime opportunity to become Fire Chief for a Day.
“We thank the Coughlin family and our volunteers for a great day,” the OFR said.

The Chief deals with the unending stream of paperwork with a smile and wave of the pen.
