A 53-year-old Calgary man pleaded guilty in Kamloops provincial court on Dec. 16 to robbing the Osoyoos CIBC on May 21.
He also pleaded guilty to four other charges of robbery in relation to heists that happened in the days leading up to the Osoyoos robbery.
Anthony Lloyd Smith walked into the CIBC on Main Street on May 21 and passed a teller a note demanding money and stating he had a weapon and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police arrested Smith and another man in a 2007 Dodge Dakota pickup truck on Hwy. 3 between Osoyoos and Rock Creek less than an hour later.
Smith’s co-accused in the case, 43-year-old Roland McAnerin of Kelowna, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of robbery.
He is suspected of being Smith’s getaway driver.
A date for McAnerin’s trial has not yet been set.
Smith also pleaded guilty to robbing a CIBC in Nanton, Alta., on May 12, a Scotiabank in Innisfail, Alta., on May 14, a CIBC in Revelstoke on May 17 and a Scotiabank in Kamloops on May 20.
A hearing is scheduled for Feb. 10, 2011, to set a date for Smith’s sentencing on the five robbery charges.
