A 34-year-old Oliver man has been sentenced to five years in jail for aggravated sexual assault and assault causing bodily harm.

But because of time already served, Brian Douglas Louie has 2.8 years (1,038 days) left.

The man was previously convicted of the offences that stemmed from a house party on the Osoyoos Indian Reserve in May of 2012.

The court heard how Louie was performing oral sex on a woman when he suddenly bit off a piece of her genitals. He subsequently kicked the victim, then dragged her down some stairs.

The woman had to be rushed to hospital where she underwent surgery.

As part of his sentencing, Louie was placed on the Sex Offender Registry and banned from possessing firearms for life.
