Film extras from Oliver and the South Okanagan are getting a firsthand look at what it takes to make a Hollywood movie these days.
Scenes for The Humanity Bureau starring Nicolas Cage are being shot in the Oliver Theatre today. Theatre Owner David Lesmeister said it will be exciting to see his business on the big screen. His only job during the film is projecting an image of the American flag on the movie screen.
Candace Neuman and family from Oliver are extras today in the theatre, where they act like patrons watching a Christmas pageant on stage.
Minh Thai, also from Oliver, is an extra who walked by Cage several times during a scene.
Cage, dressed in black, was packing a handgun and interacted with a mother and her child during the pageant scene. During takes, Cage was relaxed and jovial with the extras.
At one point, the director advised the extras not to look at the camera, and Cage sympathized with the extras, saying the camera was “fascinating.”
