SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT ON 'LOU-LOU'
Editor:
The Times' front page article on the banishment of Lulu (more properly Lou-Lou, since his name was Louis) had a few inaccuracies, which ought to be corrected.
Mr. Craig Phillips said the noise was not the big issue for me when it came to the snow goose (which resided across the pond from him.)
He was quoting as saying that, It was more a health and environmental issue.
Balderdash.
He also said that Lou-Lou's presence on the pond drew a large number of wild Canadian geese and The fecal matter left behind by these creatures was appalling.
As a denizen of Peanut Pond (or Peanut Lake, its preferred appellation,) the wonder this year is the almost total absence of geese.
Last year, it is true, there were dozens of geese visiting on a daily basis, dropping lots of their grassy poop everywhere.
This year, however, there have been absolutely no geese, except for two geese buddies that flew in during the early morning and paddled around and chilled all day with Lou-Lou and flew away before sunset.
It was interesting to see them trailing Lou-Lou around the grassy areas and around the lake.
Not hundreds, Mr. Phillips”two geese.
So, if the objection to Lou-Lou's presence is specious”since his presence did not attract hordes of geese who would then dirty Mr. Phillip's environment, then why has he been banished?
His was a graceful, benign presence.
I heard his honking in the morning.
Would a set of earplugs be such a great sacrifice to have a little beauty, a natural elegance calling the lake home?
Bring Lou-Lou back and have a vet give him laryngitis via some pill or needle.
Then the philistines will have no cause to complain, n'est-ce pas?
