Forgive me Lord and ICBC, for I have sinned.
In 1995 I got an impaired driving charge. I thanked the judge for my $500 fine and six months no licence.
I could not live with myself if I woke up and realized that I killed someone. It was a cheap lesson.
Then BC Premier Gordon Campbell got an impaired in Hawaii. The only difference between Mr. Campbell and I is that I paid my fine, while the people of BC paid his fine and his trip to Hawaii.
I thought, what the hell? I am right in there with the big shots.
Anyway, I sold my car because I thought I didn’t need it as I was always in the work camps.
I did not know about ICBC points. I thought I owed $600. Wrong. They said I owed $1,500, pray tell for what? Interest on $600? Give me a break! So they said, okay, make it $1,300. Now can I have my licence back? No, now I need a learner’s licence. Oh please, I have been driving since I was 16 years old. I drove a 28-foot U-Haul from Moose Jaw to Osoyoos.
I know a man who went to jail for getting behind on his alimony. The government pulled his licence. Great, now that takes his ability away to work and pay his alimony.
Let him drive to make a living and garnishee his wages. That would make more sense to me.
Now ICBC is billions of dollars in the hole. How did this happen? BC people pay the highest premiums in Canada. We pay more insurance than the car is worth.
I can start to see why people just drive without a licence or insurance. It is much cheaper than all of the “BS,” and I don’t mean brown sugar.
We have to privatize the insurance companies and get some competition in this province.
Crystal Clear, Oliver
