I write in support of comrade Peter McKenna’s application to have the new park adjacent to the Coast Hotel designated as Veteran’s Park.

As a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, I am proud to recognize all military personnel, especially those who died during wars to protect all innocent people.

I consider it a privilege to march with the Legion contingent on November 11, but the march and ceremony at the present cenotaph on Main Street creates huge traffic disruptions and a serious impediment to commercial traffic. An additional threat is the impediment to emergency vehicles responding to life threatening situations. The RCMP are obliged to use some of their members for traffic control at a time when their local resources may be needed elsewhere.

Whether or not these delays cause driver anger and subsequent dangerous driving remains conjecture, but that possibility exists.

Therefore, I urge council to agree that McKenna’s application offers many benefits and no disadvantages which cannot be ameliorated.
