Dear Editor:
Our governments have covered the bases for seniors who require housing and assisted living, etc. What about those who have only CPP, OAS and GIS for their income while living unassisted, active lives without debt or mortgage?
For these individuals there are three areas of health which have not been addressed by the governments but should be considered. These three areas, which have fallen short and require assistance, are vision care, hearing devices and dental (partials, dentures and general dental health).
As we all move into the age of retirement it will become inevitable that these areas of health will need to be addressed. For those being reliant on government pension, and nothing more, these health concerns are virtually impossible to attain due to costs. My feeling is if those holding Status Cards receive this privilege, why not low-income pensioners?
If you are in agreement, the Minister for Seniors is the one to contact at [email protected], and remember that there is a federal election on October 21 at which you will also be able to present your views.
Over the years our government has done a lot for minority groups but sometimes they miss certain aspects that may create a huge difference for those individuals.
Let’s look after our seniors now as we will all be there eventually.
Mark Rant, Prince George
