Re: Subdivision proposed for Lobelia Drive

Dear Editor:

Another great piece of agricultural land released by the ALR. Last year it was totally productive growing melons (squash).

This property at 3810 Lobelia Dr. is designated for single-family homes. The Town now is considering an amendment to change this from single-family homes to smaller lot sizes so they can cram more homes on this land.

With more crammed homes, this means less green space for children and others to enjoy. Additionally, with only one exit from the subdivision, this means more vehicle traffic. One of our busiest roads (except for the highway), that the majority of people use heading south from the town.

Despite these negative considerations, should this amendment be passed, more crammed homes mean more dollars for the contractor. Therefore, why does the town not stipulate that three or four of these crammed homes be sold to lower income families (with a ten-year flipping clause)?

There is a beautiful aquatic pond full of wildlife on this land. With the contractor building a fence, will the public have access to view it? There is a major difference between 12 and 27 metres. Why can’t the town demand 27 metres as this pond has been poisoned before.
