Dear Editor:
We live on a street that was affected by this year’s flooding.
With the water levels having receded and the smoky haze having passed, we wanted to express a sincere thanks to everyone who helped in our efforts.
Whether it be filling or delivering sandbags, coordinating volunteers or bringing the volunteers food and water, every contribution made a difference.
We also wanted to give special mention to:
Sannah Fletcher who rallied and organized volunteers filling sandbags at the boat trailer storage area;
Okanagan R.V. Centre which worked side by side with us for days with a fork lift to bring pallets of sandbags as close to volunteers building the dikes as possible. It made the difficult task of building the street long dike much less onerous;
RCMP South Okanagan Veterans Association (Osoyoos) for providing volunteers who worked tirelessly to assist in building the dike;
Rona (Osoyoos) who provided amazing service both during the flood preparation and mitigation efforts as well as post flood efforts;
The fire and forestry crews – including the Salish Unit Crew – that worked tirelessly to fill sandbags and load them into waiting pick-up truck and then came again to the aid of communities facing fires a few weeks later.
The events of this summer clearly show that we live in an amazing community.
Thank you,
Tim and Carole Bird
Osoyoos, B.C.
