Dear Editor:

I believe it is in the best interest of citizens of Osoyoos to know that their Town Council has decided to hold three meetings closed to the public this week to discuss town business, with topics to be discussed as follows:

1. Monday, December 3, 2018 – Labour and Freedom of information

2. Tuesday, December 4, 2018 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. – Municipal Objectives

3. Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 4 p.m. – Section 90.1 – Municipal Objectives.

What is puzzling and noteworthy about these meetings is that Council has decided to hold the second and third meeting at Walnut Beach Resort, rather than Council Chambers at the Osoyoos Town Hall built for that purpose. Second, if outside venues are used, it seems reasonable that there should be rotation between all local businesses that can offer the facilities needed for such meetings, rather than the business being awarded without discussion or request for proposal overwhelmingly to a single business.

Council often / on occasion tells Osoyoos tax payers that it is careful with tax payers’ money. The fact that money is being spent unnecessarily on meetings that do not make use of the town’s own facilities suggests otherwise.
