Oliver Parks and Recreation’s Small Wheels Playground Project is $10,000 closer to becoming a reality, thanks to a donation from the Kiwanis Club of Oliver.
Oscar Villa and Daniel Baker, two members of the Skateboard Club at Southern Okanagan Secondary School, presented to the Kiwanis at their Tuesday meeting and received a cheque.
Planning for the project, which will revitalize the existing skatepark at Lion’s Park, is underway and construction will begin once funds are raised.

The overall project cost is approximately $220,000 and just under $200,000 is still needed, said Parks and Recreation manager Carol Sheridan.
“We have a long way to go.”
There are a few ways that the public can help the project come to fruition.
There are many items required for the project that can be donated in-kind to lower the overall cost and a list of items needed is available at the Parks and Recreation office, Sheridan said.
There are also two Small Wheels Playground fundraisers planned before Christmas. On Friday, November 23 there will be a Small Bowls for Small Wheels event at the Community Hall, and on Wednesday, December 12 a Kids Helping Kids movie night is taking place at the Oliver Theatre.
A corporate sponsorship campaign will be launched before the end of November as well.
Donations to the project can be made at the Parks and Recreation Office at 6359 Park Drive.
