A by-election is being called to replace Osoyoos school trustee June Harrington, who submitted a letter of resignation in July.

The news only came to light Monday when School District 53 sent out a notice for a special meeting Thursday to deal with the matter.

Harrington could not be reached for comment, but she was openly frustrated with her experience on school board during the process that threatened to close Osoyoos Secondary School.

At times she was the lone voice for keeping the school open.

Thursday’s meeting is to vote on motions to appoint Lynda Minnabarriet, secretary-treasurer, as Chief Election Officer and Merrill Bjerkan, executive assistant, as the Deputy Chief Election Officer.

Nominations would close Sept. 30 with a vote, if necessary, taking place Nov. 5.
