Osoyoos residents surveyed the damage and picked up the broken tree branches and knocked down fences along with damaged roof shingles following the intense wind gusts yesterday from the afternoon thunderstorms that passed through the region.

As many residents noted the wind was very erratic, damaging for instance, one house in a neighbourhood but not impacting the rest.

Osoyoos CAO Rod Risling said town crews were surveying trees in local parks and streets but it appeared none had come down, with only branches coming off in the wind.

At the Osoyoos Golf Course, a few big trees could be seen lying on their side after being uprooted in the windstorm.

As for the water outage that resulted from the power disruption (meaning the reservoir tanks could not be refilled by pumps), Risling said all systems were fully functioning early this morning by 1 a.m. (Thursday) following the various power outages that struck around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

He noted that for any household still experiencing water outages to contact the town.

The wind blew over this tree which then pulled up the irrigation system.

Risling also noted that had council approved the recommendation for generators there would have been no disruption to the water supply.

The generators were dropped during the budget process when council scrambled to bring down the large budget increase in the face of widespread public disenchantment.

Meanwhile, in Oliver the wind appeared to have a much smaller impact with largely just tree branches downed.
