A well-known Alberta artist has donated some impressive artwork he created more than 50 years ago to the Town of Osoyoos.

Ken and Margaret Singleton from Penticton made a brief presentation to Town of Osoyoos council last week and handed over a beautiful print of a painting created by George Weber dating back to 1957.

The print shows a colourful depiction of the beautiful mountains that surround the Town of Osoyoos more than 50 years ago.

Weber was a “very well known colourist from Alberta” who loved to travel to the Okanagan Valley on a regular basis and paint the beautiful landscapes he observed across the valley, said Margaret.

The print of the painting called “Osoyoos in 1957” was handed over to Mayor Stu Wells and members of council following their presentation to council.

Weber lived until age 95 and was commissioned by the federal government to paint pictures of numerous national parks, she said.

Weber’s daughter Carol Morris donated the paintings and asked that they be donated to the Town of Osoyoos on behalf of her family, said Margaret, who along with her husband, are actively involved in the arts scene in Penticton.

A second silkscreen print of the Nk’Mip Reserve will also be donated to the town in the near future, said Singleton.

Councillor Michael Ryan thanked the Singletons for getting involved in this project and ensuring that the beautiful artwork would be presented to town leaders as requested by members of Weber’s family.

“We’re very grateful for you bringing these to the town and we will treasure them,” he said.

Mayor Stu Wells agreed and said the print is a beautiful piece of artwork.

“We’re absolutely thrilled,” he said. “The print is very special and very Osoyoos.”

The print and painting are expected to be hung on the walls at Town Hall and then donated to the archives at the Osoyoos Museum.
