A multiple vehicle accident on Hwy. 97 at the south end of Vaseux Lake backed up traffic towards Oliver in the early afternoon today (July 3) with the Oliver Fire Department (OFD) classifying it as a “mass causality incident (MCI)“.
DriveBC indicated Hwy. 97 was closed at Sundial Road, a situation that remained for quite some time until the road was cleared. No further information was given.
The OFD later in the day said in a social media post that it had responded to a multi-vehicle accident involving three vehicles with multiple patients, and as such was classify it as a MCI which it had only just practiced less than a week ago.
“By definition an MCI is an incident that overwhelms the local medical resources,” it said.
“We would like to thank the OK Falls Fire Department for assisting us with this call along with BCEHS, and RCMP,” the OFD continued in its post.
Separately another accident near the Petro-Canada gas station north of the Kalenden turnoff slowed traffic around the same time.
