The Desert Valley Hospice Society is inviting the community out to a fundraiser and they’re promising it’ll be a hoot.

The Hootenanny for Hospice Dine n’ Dance is taking over the Legion in Osoyoos for a stompin’ good time.

All proceeds raised at the event will support Desert Valley Hospice Society’s programming.

“Our end goal is to have a fully functioning hospice house,” executive director Donna Gordon said.

“The current fundraising goal is to run our programs, such as the adult supportive care day program for people with serious or life-limiting illnesses,  grief support, palliative massage services for clients and caregivers, advance care planning, and one-to-one client support in homes, facilities and hospitals.”

The event will feature a chili dinner, a 50/50 draw, door prizes, best costume prize, a blackjack tournament, photo booth and dancing to tunes provided by Kelowna-based folk bluegrass group the Sunday Morning String Band.

“The first four letters in hootenanny spell hoot – and the Hootenanny for Hospice is going to be a whole lot of fun – with a purpose,” Gordan said. “And the best chili dinner served up in the Valley.”

The event is on Saturday, January 19 from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Osoyoos Legion Hall.

Tickets are $35 and are for sale online at desertvalleyhospice.org, in Oliver at Divine Esthetics & Barbering, and in Osoyoos at Mills Office Pro.
