If the shoe fits . . . keep it at home.
That’s exactly what the SOSS senior boys Hornets did Thursday night by defeating the Pen-Hi Lakers 86-65 in the 50th annual “Shoe Game.”
While Pen-Hi leads the series 27-22, SOSS has won the Shoe 11 years in a row.
High scorers for the Hornets were Gurshan Dhaliwal and Manjot Dhaliwal with 24 points each. Manjot was the three-point killer, and the Lakers quickly learned that leaving him open on the outside was a big mistake.
Gurshan set up many of the plays that saw the Hornets as a cohesive unit with rock solid offence and a tough defence.
However, the Lakers had a fast offence with great passing, enabling the team to keep pace with the Hornets during most of the game. But the home team’s constant pressure and formidable offence was just too much in the end.
Six-foot-seven Dylan Moorman, the Lakers’ big man under the basket, was like a tree that the Hornets could not chop down. Moorman had three or four dunks in the game.
Jake Stokker was the other high scorer for the Lakers.
The Hornets are now first in league play with a 5-1 record. They host the zones on February 10-11.
