The senior boys Hornets travelled to Abbotsford recently to play in the 54th annual “Snowball” tournament.
In their first game the Hornets played Vancouver College (honourable mention AAAA). The Hornets came out flying as they led by five at half time. But a third quarter letdown allowed Vancouver College to jump out to a 14-point lead, which the Hornets could not overcome as they lost 80-74.
Gurk Dhaliwal led the team with 23 points, followed by Austin Basso with 22 and Malcolm Heinrichs with 15.
In their second game they faced off against the Kelowna Secondary School Owls. The game started out well but did not finish well as the Owls applied a full-court press that caused the Hornets all sorts of problems that they could not overcome as they were trounced 109-69.
Gurk Dhaliwal scored 25, Malcolm Heinrichs added 17, and Blake Miller Yuckin added seven.
In their last game the Hornets were able to bounce back from that huge loss with an impressive 99-93 overtime victory over Robert Bateman Secondary.
Malcolm Heinrichs hit a huge three-pointer to force overtime. He also added 32 points and was named player of the game. Gurk Dhaliwal poured in 25, with Blake Miller Yuckin adding eight more.
Come out and support the home team as the Hornets take on Princess Margaret at Southern Okanagan Secondary School on January 22 starting at 6:30 pm.
