Several homes have been evacuated on Nk’Mip Road southeast of Oliver as a new wildfire has erupted on a hillside.
Oliver Fire Department is on scene with mutual aid from Osoyoos and Willowbrook.
The fire broke out before 4 p.m. on a mountainside above homes on the Osoyoos Indian Band reserve. No cause has yet been determined.
The blaze appeared to have started at the top of the hillside and was making its way down to a couple of homes where spot fires reportedly threatened the structures. There has been no report of any structures on fire.
Helicopters have been utilized to dump water on the fire.
At 5 p.m. there was a report of the fire crossing the road into a field. Residences in the “camp” nearby have been told to evacuate as spot fires were proving a challenge to deal with.
